Brainspotting Therapy
“Where you look affects how you feel.”
David Grand, Ph.D, is the developer and a trainer of Brainspotting Treatment.
Brainspotting (BSP) locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Brainspotting, discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D., is a brain-based therapeutic tool that uses relevant eye positions to allow both first-time clients as well as those who may be seeking new therapy techniques to effectively identify and heal trauma that is located past the conscious mind, in the deeper, subcortical parts of the brain. In this way, BSP is able to target the subconscious trauma that underlies and contributes to a wide variety of mental health and behavioural conditions.
Brainspotting can be used as a natural way to engage both mind and body in healing trauma. The BSP website explains, “we believe that BSP taps into and harnesses the body’s natural self-scanning, self-healing ability. When a Brainspot is stimulated, the deep brain appears to reflexively signal the therapist that the source of the problem has been found. BSP can also be used to find and strengthen our natural resources and resilience. BSP is designed as a therapeutic tool that can be integrated into many of the healing modalities.”
